DFW Sports Television Broadcast Freelancers

As you all know, many sectors of the job market have been dealt an unexpected and massive blow from the postponement of events and loss of business due to the unprecedented safety measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. One particular group that has not been publicized as much in terms of the loss of work is the sports television production industry. For every face you see on camera, there are countless others behind the camera who work harder, longer hours than the announcers and who are equally as passionate about sports and dedicated to sharing that passion through the medium of television. It takes a village of men and women who operate cameras, build graphics, mix audio, edit video for the instant replays you see and numerous other jobs to bring a live television sports broadcast to the air. However, in many situations if you work in one of these off-camera crew positions in sports television you are a freelancer…meaning no games = no paychecks.

In North Texas, over 100 individuals work full-time in the sports television production industry and are part of the crews that bring you the regional telecasts of the Mavs, Rangers, Stars and FC Dallas. The television voices of the Mavs and FC Dallas (Mark Followill), the Rangers (Dave Raymond) and the Stars (Josh Bogorad) are parterning together to launch a GoFundMe on behalf of the DFW Sports Television Broadcast Freelancers. The three of us have started the fund with a donation and we hope those of you who see our respect and admiration for these men and women or who just love good sports television and the people who make it happen would be willing to contribute to this fund which will help those in the group who need it most in this difficult time.

We recognize so many are hurting in every walk of life right now. We would be grateful to all who can contribute and if you can’t then sharing this with others would be equally as appreciated. I know how much all of these men and women can’t wait to get back to what they love and that is bringing sports fans the best viewing experience possible.
