Veterinary bills for Django

My black Labrador Django came into my life 10 years ago, he’s been my best mate ever since. Everything you expect from a lab and more. Always super resilient, strong and positive. I’ve been extremely fortunate with Django, as other than a bit of sickness here and there, just like any other dog, he’s always been super healthy and in great condition. People rarely believe he is 10 years old, he doesn’t look it and certainly doesn’t act it! Unfortunately, over the past month, Django has developed a serious issue in his gut. After many many tests of different kinds, it’s still not 100% clear as to what has caused the issue and why it is happening. Severe inflammation of the small intestine has meant he has been extremely unwell and needed a strong dose of steroids to help him. As well as helping him, they’ve also had quite strong side effects which have contributed to a decline in health. Along with lots of tests, different medications and many attempts of getting his appetite back, Django has had to have a lot of specialist treatment and overnight stays in a specialist hospital. If anyone has been unfortunate enough to have also been in this position, you will know the costs add up pretty quickly. Django has always been insured, unfortunately the insurance limit was exceeded within the first week of treatment.

People that know me will know I’m not someone that will ask for help, particularly financial. There comes a time when you have to accept that you’re in a desperate situation and help is needed, this is that time for me and my family. The emotional toll it has taken on us is a heavy one, however there is also a financial toll that cannot be ignored.

I fully appreciate the choices I’ve made are my choices and that’s why I am where I find myself. We are now in a position where we find ourselves in a significant amount of debt due to the bills that are ongoing and have exhausted credit/loan options. We do not know what the short term or long term future holds for Django, he is currently in the hospital on a feeding tube with the hope that this will help him gain some weight and strength which will help him absorb medication and allow it to make him feel better which will then improve his appetite and allow him to get back on track by eating by himself. It’s tough to give up on him when he still shows signs of himself and very very recently was so full of life. While he is still fighting to recover, we are trying to give him every chance of doing so.

I appreciate a lot of people may not be dog people or understand why I have gone to the lengths I have to help him and that is absolutely understandable - there are no expectations from us from this at all, we’re just at a point where we have to try and get our best boy back home.

Any funding will go straight into paying off what has already been paid. We have had Django home on two occasions, but unfortunately he has had to be readmitted both times, one in an emergency. We are expecting a fairly large bill this time around due to the treatment he’s had and the time he is having to spend hospitalised. If we are lucky enough to get him home, it’s likely he will be on medication for a significant amount of time after.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can offer Django in this time.
