Hearing Aids for Lanier

Donation protected
Here's a little background, before I make my request:

On July 23, 2013, my dad (Lanier) was flown to the hospital and admitted to the Level One Trauma Center at Penn State Hershey Medical Center because a newly prescribed blood thinner medication caused damage to his kidneys, resulting in massive amounts of internal bleeding.  He made it to the hospital with only minutes to live and was immediately placed on life support and put in a medically induced coma.  Six weeks later he was pulled from the coma to start the long road of recovery.  At first, he was completely paralyzed, unable to swallow or lift his head.  In time, though, he regained some strength and was able to communicate verbally.  When he was strong enough he began to walk with the help of a cane (which meant he could finally take his own shower!!).  In the end, it was a total of 118 days before he was able to come home.

Unfortunately, though, we found out that the damage to his kidneys was completely irreparable.  He is now diagnosed as an End Stage Renal Patient, which means the only reason he is still alive is because he is on permanent hemodialysis.  It's the only viable option.  My parents were screened and accepted into a training program which certified my mom (Denise) to do his dialysis at home, so she is his fulltime caregiver.  Dialysis takes about 100 hours per month, which does not include the time it takes for all of their other regular clinic and doctor appointments, including many hours of driving time.  Because of this, she had to shut down her own self-employed consultant business.  This means that the household income has been slim to none, as she has been unable to work more than one day a month.  Here's the scary part:  since the hospital visit in 2013, his medical costs have been over $2.8 million dollars per year.  He has good insurance, thankfully, but it does not cover everything.  My parents pay thousands of dollars out of pocket.

Now, for the request:
In addition to everything else that's going on medically, my Dad also suffers from significant hearing loss.  He was already using hearing aids prior to his kidney failure, but the medication he was put on during his induced coma augmented the hearing loss, making it far, far worse.  After a recent trip to the audiologist to get his hearing aids fixed, my dad found out that they were no longer able to be repaired.  Because of the severity of his hearing loss, he needs a special set of hearing aids which cost $5000.  We are respectfully requesting help to provide Lanier with the gift of hearing once again. Thank you for your response. May God Bless you for your help!
