Dear Friends,
My name is Sarah Anne and I created this page to help our dear family friend Diana Avellaneda.
Diana is a beautiful 26 year old girl who is always looking out for others, and always has a smile on her face. She was just getting her start in life, going to school and working as an event planner and teaching others about self-sustainable food, when she came down with a rare condition.
It began nearly one year ago, Diana went away on a trip to Peru to volunteer at a rural hospital. It was there she recognized a lump in her throat which soon became so large a doctor saw it and told her she needed to have it checked. Doctors back in the states declared it was her ‘thyroid’ and didn’t have many answers. Then, the pain began.
Over the course of the year Diana began to lose a large amount of weight, her nose began to bleed at random times, and she became extremely fatigued with severe migraines. She had been attending Indian River State College studying business management but was forced to drop out in January of this year. Only two months ago we found out the severity of her condition after a routine blood draw during a visit to her family doctor.
Since then Diana has seen over a dozen doctors and specialists, between three hospitals, and not one can offer a real solution. The doctors are discussing the possibility of thyroid cancer however her biopsy on her neck came back inconclusive and they need to retest. What they have diagnosed is lupus (auto immune disorder) and stage 5-kidney failure. Diana has lost 85% of her kidneys in the last year due to anti-bodies attacking her own organs, and they recommend a transplant. However, the problem is the lupus will attack the new kidney, so at this time, this option is not available.
Diana's family is in Florida’s and she recently has been transferred to the University of Michigan Health System. Her boyfriend, my brother Chris, has been with her in the hospital, and in and out of the ER. Our family will not stop searching until we get the right answers and treatment for her. We are committed to finding a cure!
Diana is sticking to an organic diet and our doctors and practitioner friends are offering direction. Unfortunately though, her hospital bills are getting exorbitant, and the holistic treatments are not covered by her insurance. So we have decided to ask for the help of our community to raise the money needed to help her heal.
The money will go to her medical bills, very specific holistic health treatments (some costing close to 1k per treatment) and continuous treatment by a TOP functional medicine doctor. Diana is coming to stay with us in California, where we will be taking close personal care of her during the intense and expensive protocol.
Diana is holding on with such courage through all of this - still smiling, and still maintains hope that she will be cured. With everyone's help, we can make this happen! We are asking for your help through prayers, visualization, and any support you can offer this young woman who gives so much love and light to this world. Everything raised through this GoFund Me page will help her get the necessary treatments, and ANYTHING you can donate helps!
We will keep you updated on her progress, and we will not give up! Together we can do this and help her heal her condition and get back to spreading joy again. We thank you so much for being a part of helping Diana!
Love,
Sarah (& the Stewart Family)
