Diana DuBois’ Medical Help

In late July, I received a phone call early one morning that my mom was headed to Oxford hospital with the thoughts she would need her gallbladder removed. Within one hour of being in the hospital, the ER doctor came in and gave her the news that she had cancer. Numerous times throughout the next two weeks, doctors told us just how bad the results were and did not seem hopeful. I’ve always known that my mom was a strong woman, but this battle has shown her true strength. We have since found out that she has small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma that originated in the pancreas and has metastasized to the liver. She has now completed 3 rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy and recently had scans to see the progress. It shows that the cancer has grown in the liver. While this scared us immensely, her doctor informed us that this can be a side effect of the immunotherapy. It can inflame the cells and give a false reading that the cells have grown. Therefore, we will do more scans in 6 weeks. In the meantime, we are trying to get an appointment at MD Anderson to verify that we heading in the right direction but more so to try and get the option of a clinical trial. Without health insurance, this journey has become extremely costly. MD Anderson will not even schedule an initial appointment without $23,000. Then there will be more expenses after that to get charts read and travel. We have had so many ask what they can do to help, and our response is still the same please pray for her daily. However, if you are able or feel led to financially help us get started at MD Anderson we would be forever grateful. If you are still reading, thank you so much for caring enough to listen to me ramble through all the details. We are so blessed with great friends and family! ❤️
