"Six Women in a Cell"
Donation protected
My book Six Women in a Cell is a true story of survival and sisterhood after police assault.
It has been described as an extraordinary book, written in poetic prose that is unwavering , technically seasoned, and important --to us as individuals, and as part of this human collective.
"Insightful. Strong. Moving. Enlightening."
It tells the stories of the five women with whom I shared a jail cell, and it is through their stories that I tell my own.
The cost of writing such a book cannot be quantified - it has been three years of hard work which I was happy to do in a vacuum. But the launching steps toward publication are expensive: editors, studio rental, book cover artist and more. Out of pocket expenses have now topped $6,500.
So here is where outside support would mean so much:
If you are in the Washington DC area, your contribution of $20 or more can be your ticket - space permitting - to my benefit show at 3pm on Feb 23rd at the beautiful Sky House Yoga in Silver Spring.* Dancing on the floor and in the air, this one-hour show features powerful choreography, video, and book excerpts. NEWS FLASH: We are sold out for the benefit show on Friday and have opened up our Tech Rehearsal to donors, Tuesday Feb 20 at 3pm*. Please be sure and designate how many tickets.
If you're not local or cannot come, please support the book by contributing to this GoFundMe. You will have my gratitude, and I will send you a preview: the first 2-3 pages of Chapter 1. We are also working on a video for you. Thanks to donations, this is now possible!
Thank you for being part of this huge effort. The 200-page manuscript is done. Let's launch it together!
