Diane Bassett's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Mark Bassett, my wife Diane finds herself needing assistance with recurring cancer treatment expenses and finds herself in between insurance coverage. Diane's current battle began at the end of April when she started to experience chest pain which prompted a full cardiac check-up. It was then determined it was gastrointestinal-related. An endoscopic exam followed, which revealed compression of the esophagus. A second endoscopy was conducted with the task of performing a deep tissue biopsy to determine the makeup of the tumor. Additionally, she had a PET Scan which revealed that the tumor in her chest also partially encased the descending aorta. This prompted a third endoscopy during which additional biopsies were taken and a stent was placed in the esophagus to open her airway. Two weeks ago Diane was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. The proposed treatment at this time is Chemotherapy and Radiation.

Diane is a loving mother (both fur and human), wife and sister. She is a retired Riverview High School Science Teacher after teaching for over 30 years. In retirement, she has volunteered at the Venice Audobon Society, Salvation Army and Elsie Quirk Library in Englewood, Florida. She is also a part of the Sarasota Retired Educators Association (SREA), Florida Retired Educators Association (FREA) and Florida Marine Educators Association. Diane has touched many people in this community and selflessly dedicated her time and energy. I would love to see the community come together to give back to her.

At this time we do not know the full extent of what funds will be needed, but to date, she has incurred around $15,000 in expenses and has yet to begin treatment (we are estimating treatment to be upwards of $60,000). All donations will be used towards her current and upcoming doctor appointments and treatments. If there are any leftover donations they will be given to a charity of Diane's choice. Please help Diane in any way you can whether that is keeping her in your prayers, gifting a donation, or sharing her story with others. Your generosity, support, and encouragement can help her overcome this obstacle.
