Diane & Roger De Bruin, Whatcom County flood

Hi, my name is Mishaela. I am fundraising for my Mom and Father -in - law. They recently lost nearly everything a few weeks ago during the flood in Sumas, Washington. Flood waters rose over 3 feet in the house. While they have flood insurance, it won’t cover everything they lost…. Floors, walls, cabinetry, appliances and ALL of the furniture.

The only thing covered by insurance is flooring, walls or anything structural to the home. In other words, all kitchen and laundry appliances and home furnishings and clothing are not covered by insurance. I am raising for them to get back on their feet.

On top of this, Roger (a volunteer EMT for the county) was working around the clock for 2 days helping others to safely evacuate the area while his own home flooded. He had a heart attack while aiding emergency efforts and was taken to St. Joseph’s in Bellingham where surgeons placed 2 stints in his arteries. Within 24 hours he was back

out in his community helping with rescue and cleanup.
