DIANNE AND LYMAN FOSSETT
My name is Judy Cannon and I would like to share a story with you. This story is about a precious family that has had to endure SO many health issues. This family is Dianne, Lyman and Matthew Fossett, originally from Abbeville, SC and now reside in Greenville. I have known this family for a long, long time and I've never felt the need to create a GoFundMe until now.
Here is the story:
In July, 2019, after having some issues, Dianne was told she needed an hysterectomy. No big deal - she would have the hysterectomy, recover, and get back into her regular routine of life. During the surgery, the doctor found that she actually had lots of cancer in many areas leading to the diagnosis of Stage 4 Colon Cancer and it had metastasized to her liver. Her life and her family's life changed that very moment.
The first round of chemo involved her having to bring a chemo pump home. After 6 months of that, she was told she needed to take chemo pills.
Then covid hit and she learns that chemo has damaged her kidney and it no longer functioned.
Shortly after receiving the news of her kidney, a scan was done and the cancer was growing and her doctors wanted to start her on another aggressive chemotherapy with awful side effects. At this time, Dianne decided to get a second opinion. Dianne said, "That is when the Lord opened the doors to The City of Hope in Atlanta, GA".
She received more rounds of chemo there which slowed the cancer down.
During the treatments, going back and forth to Atlanta, never knowing if they would be there two days or even week, their apartment experienced major water damage. They had to move out of their apartment for 4 months.
In September 2022, Dianne's bloodwork showed some issues with her spleen and surgery was done to cut off partial blood flow to the spleen to help with increased platelets.
In 2023, during one of her many appointments in Atlanta, she had a scan done and it showed the cancer was growing again. The doctors changed her chemo pill and started another chemotherapy infusion every three weeks. Chemo pills caused bleeding and she would have episodes of anemia. When the next scan was done she received good news - the cancer had not grown. The doctors decided to keep her on the same regiment. Then the pain began and the scan showed bone lesions of her rib cage. This had to be treated with radiation therapy. The bleeding was getting worse. Another scan was done to see what was going on only to find that she has a fistula ( a hole) and this was causing other major issues. She is now in need of a diverting colostomy. Dianne's prognosis is not where she wants it to be but she still laughs, smile and Praises God.
Over the last several months, Dianne's husband Lyman, was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His biopsy will be done on January 8, 2024 and we pray that it is in the early stages.
Dianne and Lyman's son, Matthew, has Chiari and has had two brain surgeries that have led to anxiety and his comprehension of life issues. Even though Matthew is an adult, Dianne and Lyman have to line someone up to come check on Matthew, take him places, make sure he has food when they are in Atlanta.
The numerous trips to Atlanta - gas, hotel room, bills that insurance won't cover, medicine, normal living expenses, etc. - continues to drain this family financially, emotionally and physically.
Let me close by saying NEVER have I spoken to this family and felt like they were feeling sorry for themselves. Each visit to City of Hope for Dianne, and now for Lyman as well, is getting harder and harder but they continue to praise this hospital for the care they are getting. Above all, they continue to praise God.
They are SO appreciative for anything done for them. If your heart desires, please contribute to The Fossett Family to help offset the expenses they are incurring. I cannot tell you how much they appreciate even the smallest financial gift.
The funds will be used for the expenses incurred with their travels back and forth to Atlanta.
Thank you for reaching out to this precious family. They have inspired me with their faith and the ability to find good in each episode of this journey they are traveling.
