Mālō e lelei, my name is Celina, I am a Tongan American business owner residing in Tacoma, Washington. I am organizing a fund to make direct payments to individuals and families who are devastated by the tsunami and volcanic eruption.

 

On 14 January 2021, a volcanic eruption from Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano occurred near the island of Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga.

 

The volcanic eruption and tsunami ravaged the people of Tonga. Ash clouds smother the sky. Houses and crops have been destroyed. These are our families and friends, real people, who have been thrown into a desperate situation without homes and simple means of living.

 

The Disaster Pa’anga Assistance for Citizens of Tonga fund is a Pasifika community-generated gifting fund created to help stabilize our Tongan community in Tonga and assist in relieving financial hardships brought on by the impact of the tsunami.

 

100% of proceeds received will go directly towards direct payments to families and individuals that need it most.

Hello, beloved Tongan community. Our thoughts and our prayers are with our families back at home in Tonga as the aftermath of the Volcano explosion continues to keep us in the dark due to loss of communication with our loved ones.

My name is Celina Tupou, I am the American granddaughter of the Honorable Viliami-Haupeakui-Tupou Fulivai, my family and I have started a Pasifika Mutual Aid Collective, we are collecting funds to make direct payments to families and individuals in Tonga affected by the disaster.

Once communications are back on in Tonga please encourage your loved ones to apply for this fund, if your family is unable to access the application, please fill one out on their behalf. We will be making direct payments via wire transfer.
