Fundraiser: Dictionaries for Student Inmates
Donation protected
I direct a First Year Writing Program that teaches writing to over 500 college students who are currently incarcerated. Ashland University is the longest-continuously-operating provider of Correctional Higher Education in the United States. Incarcerated students are not permitted to access the internet and thus do not have automated dictionaries or grammar checking software to help them with their writing.
The facilities where our students live do not have always have fully equipped libraries so most students cannot even access a dictionary. I would like to eventually raise enough money to donate a $4.50 pocket dictionary to every student. The goal is to raise $2,500 but donations of any size are welcome!
Since March, we have been able to donate 22 dictionaries to 6 sites.
Thank you for anything you can give-- when these students are released, their education benefits them, their families, their communities, and, in turn, all of us because the students are more able to find employment and be contributing members of society.
