Did you hear Bruce needs a vet?

Bruce is one of five adult brothers who were set loose in a large managed park colony around Christmas time that I help care for.  This handsome stinker was the last to be trapped for TNR and unfortunately has ear health issues that have proven to be just as stubborn as he is.  Bruce had a nasty infection with a massive polyp filling his entire left ear which ulcerated and was causing much discomfort.  Shortly after captured he was taken to PAWS where he was neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, and combo tested negative.  The medical staff were gracious enough to remove his polyp and clean up his ear for me.  Bruce was also given additional pain medication to make him more comfortable as well as a long acting antibiotic injection to help clear up his infection.
Due to his overall condition I decided to recover Bruce for 4 weeks so I could monitor his healing progress, fully deworm, and help him put on some much needed weight.  He healed wonderfully while indoors and was dosed with Bravecto (a 12 week topical flea/tick preventative) just before his release back to his outdoor home which I’ve found he prefers.  Everything seemed to be going well for Bruce until this past weekend when I noticed him shaking his head with rivets of pus trickling out of his ear.  Thankfully this time I was able to net him quickly and bring him back home with me where I could better examine his ear and it’s not pretty.  I see no new polyp but the canal is inflamed and infected.  Fresh pus comes out daily and I do my best to remove the dried excess from his head with warm compresses but it’s not enough.  He needs to be examined by a veterinarian with an otoscope, have an ear cytology and possible culture so he can be prescribed the proper oral and ear topical medication to wipe out the infection for good this time.  I’ve already spent $45 on his treatment just at PAWS and while he is certainly worth that and then some I just don’t have the funds to help him.  We will need to rely once again on the generosity of strangers and friends to help.  Please share and donate today for Bruce so he can feel better and be reunited with his family.
