Artemis Books - Queere Buchhandlung Aachen

Nach monatelanger harter Arbeit wird ein Traum zur Realität: Aachens erste queere Buchhandlung öffnet seine Türen im Oktober.

Hi, ich bin Leonie, begeisterte Leseratte und Inhaberin von Artemis Books. Ob auf Instagram, TikTok oder anderen Social Media Kanälen, ein Buchladen für die LGBTQIA+ Community ist wohl der Traum von vielen. Um dies für uns alle zu verwirklichen, habe ich Anfang des Jahres angefangen mich ernsthaft mit der Thematik zu beschäftigen und einen Businessplan erarbeitet. Jetzt seid ihr gefragt!

Artemis Books ist eine queere Buchhandlung, ein sicherer Ort für die LGBTQIA+ Community und inklusiv für Menschen aller Geschlechtsidentitäten, Sexualitäten und Kulturen. Unsere Mission ist es "Queerness" zu normalisieren, uns gegenseitig auf unseren einzigartigen Lebenswegen zu unterstützen und ein Beispiel für eine Welt zu setzen, in der wir leben wollen.

Was für Bücher gibt es bei uns?

Bei Artemis Books wird es, ganz normal (denn das sind queere Menschen) wie in anderen Buchhandlungen, Romane sowie Sachbücher geben. Von Young Adult über Fantasy bis hin zu Thriller und Gedichtsammlungen - Jede:r wird bei uns auf seine:ihre Kosten kommen. Natürlich sind auch nicht-queere Menschen in der Buchhandlung willkommen und es wird ein Angebot zum Thema Feminismus, Black Lives Matter, Toxic Masculinity und vielem weiterem geben.

Artemis Books ist nicht nur eine Buchhandlung, sondern ein Ort der Begegnung. Es wird folgende Angebote zur Vernetzung geben:

Wie soll es in der Buchhandlung aussehen?

Ich wünsche mir einen Ort der gemütlich ist und in dem man sich wohl fühlen kann. Für mich gehören Pflanzen als Einrichtung ganz klar dazu. Wenn man Artemis Books betritt, wird man das Gefühl haben, eine andere Welt zu betreten. Einen sicheren Ort in dem man sich ein Buch kaufen, hinsetzen und in Ruhe Kaffee trinken und lesen kann.

Wofür wird das Crowdfunding Geld verwendet?

Um all das wahr werden zu lassen, brauche ich natürlich finanzielle und tatkräftige Unterstützung. Das gespendete Geld vom Crowdfunding wird für Bücherregale, Einrichtung, Musiker:innen und ein breites Spektrum an Büchern verwendet. Ich wünsche mir, dass zur Eröffnung die Regale komplett voll mit diversen Büchern sein werden und jede:r Besucher:in etwas für sich finden kann.

After long months of hard work, a dream becomes reality: Aachen's first queer bookshop opens its doors in October.

Hi, I'm Leonie, passionate bookworm and owner of Artemis Books. A bookshop, or even a bookshop-café, is probably the dream of many queer people. That is why I started to seriously work on my dream and developed a business plan beginning of this year.

Artemis Books is a queer bookstore, a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community and inclusive of all genders, sexualities, cultures and identities. Our mission is to normalize queerness, support each other on our unique journeys and set an example for a world we want to live in.

What kind of books do we have?

At Artemis Books, like in other bookshops, there will be fiction novels as well as non-fiction. From young adult to fantasy to thrillers and poetry - everyone will get their money's worth with us. Of course, non-queer people are also welcome in the bookshop and there will be a wide range of books on Feminism, Black Lives Matter and Toxic Masculinity.

What will the bookshop look like?

I imagine a place in which you can feel cozy and comfortable. For me, plants are clearly part of the interior design. Stepping into Artemis Books should give you the feeling of stepping into another world. A safe place where you can sit down and comfortably sip your coffee while reading a new book.

What is the crowdfunding money used for?

To make all this come true, of course, financial support is needed. The money raised from crowdfunding is used for bookshelves, furnishings, musicians and a wide range of books. What I hope for most is that the shelves will be completely filled with a diverse variety of books and that every visitor will be able to find something for themselves.
