Diego Laryngeal Paralysis Surgery
Donation protected
4/13/23: I am no longer accepting donations, as I was able to raise what I needed to. I’m so touched by the help I’ve received. Thank you!!
Diego continues to show improvement, and needs less support from sedative medications each night to sleep. He’s also trying to *run* and *jump* and *chase* and *bark* and *play* despite our best efforts to keep him relaxed and calm. His mindset is so good! Now he just needs his body to catch up with him, ha.
4/12/23: The outpouring of love has been truly overwhelming. I have so much gratitude for my community- Thank you all for your massive support!! Diego is doing really well! He has some post op tendencies, but is overall progressing each day! He has an appetite and a skip in his step, showing us that he wants to be here in the physical world. It also proves that we made the right decision! We always joke that he’s 14 going on 6, and this has been no exception.
4/9/23: Surgery went well, and Diego is breathing on his own! He’ll be staying at the hospital overnight for good measure, and should be able to come home tomorrow/Monday.
4/9/23: After being rushed to MVRH in Woburn, he was heavily sedated, and even had to be intubated a couple of times. When he's intubated, his vitals are great. Chest x-rays looked great. Bloodwork came back great. His throat flaps just wont stay open to let air in. Vets are pretty convinced it's laryngeal paralysis.
We decided to go ahead with surgery to suture one of the two laryngeal flaps open permanently. It has a high success rate, and could really give Diego a new lease on life. If he wasn't totally healthy and active otherwise, we would have probably decided to let him pass peacefully. But this is what the vets all recommended, and after going over every scenario, Tyler and I truly feel like "Skippy" still has some skipping to do in the physical world. This is happening today (4/9/23).
As soon as we hear anything, we will post another update.
If you've read this far, thank you for even doing that. The outpouring of love for our family and this dog has been incredible.
Love,
Brie, Tyler, Puck, Daphne, and Diego <3
