Diesel's Hoka Hey Challenge

Hello! My name is Diesel and I’m an injured combat veteran. I was medically retired from the Marines due to injuries sustained during Operation Azada Wosa, in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. I was with 1st Battalion 6th Marines out of Camp Lejeune, NC.

I heard about the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge around 5 years ago. In a nutshell, the ride encompasses 10,000 miles across the Country on your motorcycle. You are given written directions upon departure and travel without the use of GPS. It’s just you, your bike, and the open road for as many days as it takes to complete the journey.

My goal is to complete the adventure within 11-14 days.  For a rider that does Iron Butts often I know how grueling that can be. Let alone do it for 11-14 days straight. Being a Marine, I understand what it takes to rise to the occasion and I’m confident I can achieve my goals.

As part of the Hoka Hey Challenge, riders engage in various types of fundraising events to support their chosen non-profit. My goal is to raise $25,000 for Honoring Our Veterans; a group that significantly changed my life.

Honoring Our Veterans (HOV) mission is to improve the quality of life for combat-wounded Veterans by offering activities that strengthen their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning.

I choose HOV because they have changed my life forever. I won the lottery being chosen to go out there and take their Honoring Our Veterans Photography Clinic. This turned my life around in many ways. Seeing the world from a different perspective and being able to see the beauty in the smallest of things. Suffering from PTSD and TBI I struggle on a daily basis. What they do is give you ways to cope and heal. 

The organization has the right attitude and fortitude to help Veterans. They are a smaller organization and I think that helps because all their hearts are in it for the Veterans.

Honoring Our Veterans is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax-deductible.

A portion of the donations will be used to obtain gear and accessories to prepare for the Hoka Hey Challenge.
