Digital Transformation of AWMS, Freetown, Sierra Leone

As proud alumni of the Annie Walsh Memorial School (AWMS), the oldest institution in West Africa that delivers education for girls, we desire to make an impact in a positive way that sustains leadership in academic and career achievement for women in Sierra Leone.

As we navigate the trajectory of the future, it is crucial to address the stark gender disparity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. With only 20–30% of STEM graduates in industrialized countries being women and even fewer in non-industrialized nations, the gender gap in these critical fields persists, leading to a male-dominated workforce and an ongoing substantial gender pay gap.

In a country such as Sierra Leone, where gender equality is not prevalent, the divide deepens, depriving girls of equal opportunities to pursue careers in emerging fields. Implementing the ICT Lab at AWMS is not just about enhancing educational facilities; it is a strategic intervention to change the trajectory of future generations.

We want to thank you in anticipation of your donation. As a committee of volunteers, we guarantee that 100% of your donation will be spent on the digital transformation of AWMS.

What are you funding:
• Phase 0 - Creating a digital footprint for the school; Digital literacy for a cohort of teachers.
• Phase 1 -ICT lab for 60 (current class size) or 30 pupils, fund-trained teachers to deliver the curriculum, fund security, and solar power.
• Phase 2 – Projectors and screens in classrooms, ICT Lab for teachers
• Phase 3 – ICT resources in the library, ICT standards in the way the school curriculum is delivered

We believe we can do this with your support
.
600 people attended the Annie Walsh Old Girls Association (AWOGA) United Kingdom (UK) Thanksgiving in March 2024.

• If each person gave £100, we could raise £60,000.
• For the 175th anniversary, if each gave £175. We would raise £105,000.

No donation is too small. One-off, fixed-number standing order giving or regular giving would be highly appreciated, as without AWOGA's ongoing support, ICT standards are unlikely to be maintained.
The project is a long-term undertaking for the foreseeable future, spearheaded by AWMS Old Girls Association (UK)AWOGAUK, working with other branches located in the diaspora.

Whilst we anticipate your support for this project, we are excited about the positive transformation it will bring, enhancing the prospects of the next generation of female leaders in Sierra Leone.

As the school motto says, "Non-Sibi Sed Omnibus."

Thank you in anticipation of your donation(s).
