Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I am fundraising money to allow myself the opportunity to volunteer with the diocese in Lourdes.

Lourdes is one of those places that no matter how many times you go, every year you come away with a

whole new experience of the place. This year in particular will be the 4 th year volunteering my time on

the pilgrimage. Also, given the unprecedented times globally over the last 3 years, this is the first time

the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle are heading out to Lourdes, post-pandemic. A large section of

volunteering on the pilgrimage is care. Care for the pilgrims, whether that be through assistance to

services around Lourdes, or even the personal care side of volunteering. This year, I expect to apply the

knowledge and understanding I have of personal care to my service. Throughout the pandemic, I was

working at the frontline in a care home in the North-East, even though it is a difficult line of work to be

involved in, it is actually very rewarding to support someone in need.

I am very grateful to be heading back out on pilgrimage. Lourdes is definitely a second home to many,

and with the help from the assumption fund, I have the opportunity to better myself, to deepen my faith

in such a holy and sacred place, as well as transforming lives around me through service.
