Our Sister: Dionne Battles Breast Cancer

Our sister (and sister-in-law), Dionne Robertson, was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer earlier this year. The c-word has spread to Dionne's spine, causing multiple compression fractures. She travels from Lockhart to Austin each week for treatment at Texas Oncology and The Cancer Wellness Center. As you know, the C-word can be a real F-bomb. Due to chronic and debilitating back pain, Dionne has been unable to work since January 2019. Crystal, her wife (our sister), is currently only working three days per week due to Dionne's treatment schedule. The usual bills and the responsibilities of adulting don't stop when we're in crisis. And money gets tighter as the medical bills compound the issue. For those of you who know Dionne, being on the receiving end of assistance isn't her favorite thing. It's hard for this West Texas girl from Spur to ask for help, so we're doing it for her. D is funny, loving, and unbelievably strong. And most of all, she's a giver! However, and whenever she can, Dionne supports her family and community. During her time working for Banana Republic, Dionne served as regional director for Gap's Community in Action program. She created and led community giveback programs with organizations like Habitat for Humanity in her local community of San Marcos. Dionne inspired each store in her region to volunteer with their local non-profits quarterly. Her vision and efforts made tangible differences in communities across the western half of the United States. Dionne may have never beat us Lady Jays at basketball, but she's on our team now. And as a team, we're helping our favorite Bulldog drop kick the C-word. (This is only funny if you played basketball with us in the early 90's. haha) We'd appreciate any assistance you might provide in letting Dionne focus on taking her body and life back without drowning in financial worries.
