Direct Support for Ukrainian Refugees in Slovakia
We provide the ONLY food and material aid direct to Ukrainian refugees in Kosice, Slovakia (we also go across the border in the Transcarpathian Region of Ukraine). We are the main source of food supplies for thousands of women and children refugees in Kosice which is the second largest NATO city on the Ukraine border. You can follow where we post video and updates of our relief efforts. We do accept material donations provided they can be transported to Kosice where we will then distribute your donation to the the growing community in and around Kosice.
We have had to reduce our operations to 3 days a week because of reduced donations and interest, however, we very much wish to return to delay operations. PLEASE HELP US TO HELP THEM!
I am honored to announce that the next 40 people who donate $600 or more to our fundraiser will receive the limited edition 60cmx40cm (23.6"x15.7") of this sure to be iconic photograph taken in the early days of the war including documentation from Slovak photographer Jano Štovka. You may also opt to have this issued to you as an NFT. This includes the cost of printing and shipping what will surely be a stunning addition to any collection. Food Facts:
We buy potatoes for 14 cents a pound. This is bought in bulk and then is broken down into smaller amounts for each family.
A can of meat or tuna is about 89 cents each.
We can only buy 5 packages of flour and cooking oil each trip. Each contains up to 10 1kg or 1liter sizes. The War created this supply issue.
We do not have refrigeration so everything (except fruit and veg) is bought as a durable good even though it is distributed right away.
SOS Center Facts:
90%+ of the people working at the SOS Center are refugees from Ukraine themselves.
All are looking for employment in the area that already has 20% regional unemployment.
Many are skilled bakers, chocolatiers, teachers, accountants, etc. We are trying to help them organize into work groups and companies.
Those who are students are working to enroll locally at the University.
The population we serve consists of women and children (who are mostly small) and pensioners.Arnie Weiss and Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová at the SOS Center in Kosice, Slovak Republic
