Buddy Holly, Mac Davis, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, Natalie Maines, and Bobby Keys. The list goes on and on. Dirt City continues to foster a strong musical heritage. The underground music scene is vibrant with experimental artists creating and performing cutting-edge music in the side streets and hidden back alleys of the arts district. The commercial music scene explodes with world-famous entertainers and venues, like The Blue Light, Cook's Garage, Jake's, and our all new, state of the art Buddy Holly Center for Performing Arts. You can't throw a rock on a Friday night without hitting a local musician or band performing at a club, bar, restaurant, or patio.

Musical education also thrives in Dirt City through community colleges and the powerhouse music program at Texas Tech University. TTU now offers a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music, along with an expansive selection of other music majors.

Dirt City Music is an association of local musicians that have come together to raise funds to start the Dirt City Music Endowment at Texas Tech University as well as provide funding for youth education programs and special programs to provide instruments and instrument repair to students in the community. We are local musicians, many of whom have graduated from these exact programs and now work within the community. We are educators, musicians, artists, friends, and family. We are the heartbeat of Dirt City, the background to all of your conventions, balls, and unforgettable nights out on the town. We are an integral part of the community, acting as hosts to thousands of patrons each year with music and songs that weave the tapestry of lifelong memories.

Your generous donations will allow us to create an endowment with Texas Tech University that will provide scholarships for years to come. The recipients of these scholarships will be music majors with the intention to continue on as performers, educators, and muses to the patrons of the arts. Although the ask is large, by setting up an endowment, we can ensure that the program will last and that we are able to support exceptional university students hoping to create their musical legacies.
