CLOSING - HELP DISABLED VETERANS NEEDS HELP

CoVid-19 has created a real crisis for Glenmary Home, a 20 bed State licensed facility in Cherokee Triangle, and Lena Lions, the business owner. For her own safety and the safety of her older disabled residents, Lena had to let many of the veterans go that would not, or could not, shelter in place with her and her grandson, who both live on property. With so few residents who were capable of sheltering in place, her income has been cut in half. Just a month ago, Lena was ready to give up on her goal of owning the building she leases. Glenmary Home provides a vital service to our community helping veterans who have served our country and challenged adults maintain meaningful lives. With more than half of her income lost to the vacancies that CoVid created, it was agreed that Glenmary would be put on the market for sale. Lena and her children had survived Hurricane Katrina with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Once her family and friends learned she was about to lose another home, they started helping with private funding. The families of residents and people of the community learned of the closing, they came together and helped Lena secure more private funding. Even with the private funding and her savings, she still must earn the rest of the funds needed by depending on this Go Fund Me campaign. Glenmary Home was first opened by Mrs Mary Bell, the widow of a WWII veteran, who had committed suicide. Glenmary Home has been a warm, loving safe place serving our community for over 40 years. This WLKY news video, (above), is just one of the many times Lena has been there for her residents. Mr Warren, a WWII Normandy Invasion Veteran, who had no family still had a heroes funeral service thanks to Lena, the efforts of her friends, the family of Mrs Bell and WLKY.
