Disaster caused by flooding in Afar Region

Urgent emergency relief aid and support are now needed for victims of this natural disaster

 

Recurrent flooding and drought have been causing loss of human lives and serious damage and destruction to the livelihood of the people in Afar region.  These disasters are further accentuated by the effects of climate change and weather variability, making it more frequent and highly intense.

The disaster now being caused by the flooding has affected more than 70,000 people and caused massive displacement in the region. “The flooding was caused as the Awash River overflows and affected 10 out of 17 counties in the region.” (Washington Post report citing local authorities)

Vulnerable groups like woman, disabled people and children are most affected. To this end, it has been witnessed that pregnant women gave birth in the midst of this flooding.  

This is therefore to appeal to you all, fellow brothers and sisters, to stand in solidarity with victims and support those in most need! Among our Ethiopian values is helping each other and supporting one another in times of disasters and serious challenges of such magnitude. Let us all contribute and help the victims!!

በየአመቱ የዝናብ ወቅትን ጠብቆ የሚከሰተው የጎርፍ አደጋ በአፋር ክልል በተለይም በአሚባራ፣ ዱብቲ፣ አይሳኢታ፣ አፋምቦና አከባቢዎች በሰዎችና በንብረት እንዲሁም በእንስሶት ላይ ክፍተኛ አደጋ ያደርሳል።

አሁን በኢትዮጲያ እያጣለ ያለዉን ክፍተኛ ዝናብን ተከትሎ በእነዚህ የአፋር ወረዳዎች በተለይ አርሶ አደሮች ቤት ንብረታቸው በጎርፍ ተጥለቅልቆ ከ 70ሺ በላይ ህዝብ ተፈናቅሏል።

በተለይ ሴቶች፣ አቅመ ደካማዎችና የካል ጉዳተኞች በከፋ ችግር ላይ ወድቋል።

እርጉዝ ሴቶች በጎርፍ አደጋ መሃል ስወልዱ ተመልክተናል።

የተከበራችሁ ወገኖቻችን የቻላችሁትን እንድትረዱ በተጎጂዎች ስም እንማጽናለን።

 

ከኢትዮጲያዊነት እሴቶች አንዱ በአደጋ ግዜ መደጋገፍና መተጋገዝ በመሆኑ፤ በዚህ አደጋ ለተጉዱ ወገኖቻችን የበኩሎን አስተዋጽዎ አበርክተው አጋርነቶን እንዲይሳዮ በ አክብሮት ጥሪ እናቀርባለን!!
