The horrific explosion is now one year behind us, but unfortunately things have taken a turn for the worse. Last year we were able to help 400 individuals with their basic needs from housing to food and medical treatments and medications. However, as the financial and economic situation keeps getting more difficult, we kindly urge you to help raise the funds that will enable them to go through these rough times.
The Lebanese currency and the overall Lebanese Economy is witnessing a collapse, as the Dollar’s exchange rate went from 1.500 LBP to 25.000 LBP. Over half of the Lebanese population is currently living under the poverty line. Furthermore, the country has collapsed. an entire nation in darkness: no water, no electricity, no food, no wifi, no fuel, no medication. Lebanon is experiencing a famine, that according to official news is still on the way, however it is already a material reality for many.
There is no substantial help for those at the margins of Lebanese society which is entirely built on heteronormative family structures. Not being part of that "norm" is widely and systematically, medically and institutionally still considered as being "sick" or "disabled." For anyone who falls outside of that narrative, to be seen as a worthy human being with their own agency is almost impossible, and this situation has only worsened with the current economic collapse. Namely, Queer, Transgender, Gay, and Lesbian persons, who either work illegally or are of lower classes; Domestic Workers from mainly African countries; and Orphaned young adults.
