DISCLOSURE at the 2022 Vancouver Fringe Festival

The Story:

Inspired by a true story, Disclosure is a new interdisciplinary work created and performed by Studio 58 graduate Katherine Matlashewski. Through movement, spoken word, soundscape, and humour, Disclosure explores the struggles of a survivor searching for pathways toward healing in an adversarial medical system.

The Journey to the Vancouver Fringe Festival 2022:

As an emerging multidisciplinary artist, I aspire to create works that integrate storytelling with voice and movement, and explore controversial issues that empower others to embody their strengths. The first iteration of Disclosure was presented at Studio 58 and performed as part of my graduation solo show in the Spring of 2022. Through this project, I rediscovered my desire to create works that take up themes of resilience. With the hopes of expanding Disclosure to a wider audience, I applied for the 2022 Vancouver Fringe Festival.

After my performance at Studio 58, I was approached by Jessie-award winning director, Jane Heyman about developing my show further. On May 6th, the Vancouver Fringe Festival announced their lottery finalists. My name was selected! Next, I approached Jane about directing the show for the Fringe. In addition, I sought out to begin building a creative team with local emerging/early career artists.

Now, I am in the process of seeking additional funding through sponsors, grants, and donations to cover the costs for bringing Disclosure to the 2022 Vancouver Fringe Festival.

What You Are Funding:

I am grateful to have already received support from various local organizations and the local arts community. Carousel Theatre for Young People has generously provided in-kind rehearsal space. The Vancouver Fringe Festival granted a subsidized festival participation fee. We have also received a Community Branch Partnership grant from Vancity Credit Union. Further support from WAVAW will be graciously provided by support workers who will be facilitating post-show talkbacks.

As an emerging artist, provincial/federal funding is limited - this means Disclosure relies heavily on support from the community to bring this production to a broader audience at the 2022 Vancouver Fringe Festival.

We are fundraising to first break even on the various production costs related to the show. This campaign is also fundraising to compensate the artists involved in this project for their time, energy, and expertise.

Your donations will go towards covering the following expenses:

  • Administrative Fees
  • Artist Insurance
  • Artist/Creative Team Fees
  • Fringe Participation Fees
  • Marketing/Promotional Fees and Material
  • Production Materials
  • Production/Technical Fees
  • Travel/Transportation Fees
  • Videographer

By donating to Disclosure, you are supporting local emerging artists who are committed to bringing innovative multidisciplinary works to the stage.

Other Ways You Can Support:

Come see the show! Disclosure will run at the Vancouver Fringe Festival from September 8th-18th, 2022. Tickets will be available for purchase on July 26th, 2022.
