Discovering Shelton J. Sanders Remains

Donation protected
Introduction

My name is Wilveria Sanders. I am the youngest sibling and only sister to Shelton John Sanders.  My family and I were born and raised in Sumter County, South Carolina. I am starting this GoFundMe on behalf of family as we seek justice for my brother, Shelton John Sanders, who has been missing since June 19, 2001.

About Shelton:

Shelton John Sanders was only 25 years old at the time of his disappearance. Shelton was a promising black male, who was a high achieving student at the University of South Carolina. He worked as a computer technician in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science at USC. He also had his own computer programming website where he expressed his interest in becoming a computer programmer after his expected graduation, December 2001. Shelton meant the world to his friends and family, he would always do whatever he could to help anyone in need. His hobbies were cooking, cleaning the yard and inside our home, and spending quality time with family and friends. He was humble, patient, funny, helpful, generous, the life of the party and loved people. He participated in many youth organizations in his local community, Rembert, SC. There were many wonderful aspects to Shelton’s life, and many ways that he touched our lives. My brother was the most influential person in my life. I was only 11 years old at the time of his disappearance.

The Back Story:

Shelton was last seen and heard from on June 19, 2001 in Columbia, SC. He was last seen after planning a bachelor party for his best friend around 11:00 – 11:30 pm.

Shelton’s car was later found in April 2003 at the Greenbrier Apartments in Columbia, SC. At this time, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department continued investigation and collecting evidence on the case.

In April 2008, the murder case resulted in a mistrial in which 8 jurors voted for a guilty verdict while 4 jurors voted not guilty due to Shelton’s body not being found, to determine his cause of death.

Cause:

After waiting almost 20 years later, justice has not been served for Shelton. More evidence needs to be collected, more public awareness of Shelton’s murder. The family is seeking closure by discovering Shelton’s remains for his proper burial.

The Goal:  $25,000.00

·         Increase CASH REWARD for any person(s) that can lead to the discovery of Shelton’s remains

·         Public Awareness Items (Billboards, T-Shirts, Masks, Flyers and Posters of Shelton)

·         Shelton’s 20th Memorial Balloon Release on June 19, 2021

·         Future efforts/search of finding Shelton’s remains

Why this cause means so much to me:

My family and I have not seen or heard from my brother in almost 20 years. We didn’t have the opportunity to say our last goodbyes or visit his grave site. We must bring closure to our family, as this unfortunate situation has caused us pain, suffering, sleepless nights. Shelton’s disappearance has especially been hard on my parents, who lost their son. My other two brothers are struggling with the reality that their brother is gone and may never come back. I was only 11 years old at the time Shelton went missing. This tragic situation has impacted me drastically growing up as a teenager. I was unable to live a life without parents always being concerned about my safety and whereabouts. My brother’s murder and disappearance has caused me a great deal of pain and I won’t stop the effort in finding him, until I discover his remains.

How Can You Help:

Someone out there knows exactly where Shelton’s remains are. Therefore, my family and I are pleading for your help to fund numerous efforts and continuous search for my brother, Shelton. If you could support our GoFundMe by making a donation and sharing it with your network, I would greatly appreciate it. No donation is too small, any amount is appreciated with helping us reach our goal.

Appreciation:

From the bottom of our hearts, Shelton’s family is greatly appreciative of all your prayers, support, thoughts, and efforts in helping us bring closure. I am forever thankful for you in contributing to this cause.
