Discovery High School Greenhouse

Hi, my name is Cleo McBride, and I truly appreciate you taking a chance to read my story. I am a current senior of Discovery High School, and for the past six years, I have been a part of the Odyssey MS / Discovery HS Project based learning campus that is heavily involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) collaborative work. Since they were established in 2016, these schools have helped students like myself learn lifelong skills ranging from teamwork and leadership to problem-solving within the community. As a way to show my appreciation, I have dedicated the last two years to designing a senior project benefiting not only the schools themselves, but also the teachers, students, and families for years to come by opening up new opportunities for project learning.
As Discovery High School is based upon hands-on learning, students and staff alike will use the greenhouse for their projects over the course of future years. After the launch, science classes would use the available space for activities such as eco-based labs during the winter months, lessons in botany and sustainable growth, as well as the inclusion of any vegetation outcomes within succeeding assignments. With this senior project, I hope to inspire and invite other 12th-grade students, among others under teacher supervision, to use the space during their senior year for projects that require controlled environments.
To ensure teacher-student collaboration, I am proud to have co-founded GenEarth, Discovery High School's first green-enthusiastic team, during the 2023-2024 school year, as a sub-goal of the Greenhouse Project. This launch will ensure that a dedicated group of students who share my concern on environmental issues will, with encouragement and sponsorship from DHS staff, manage and maintain it for years to come.
Any money donated will be used to fund the necessary materials and foundational permits for this project. Any amount you are willing to contribute is greatly appreciated, and if you're are not able to contribute at this time, a share or shout-out to your friends and family would mean the world to me.
Thank you so much for taking a moment to listen and I hope that together as a community, we can make this idea into a reality!
