Diskin Elementary Robotics Team World Championship

This year myself (Samantha Pruett) and another teacher (Jessica Miller) decided to take on the challenge of coaching two VEX IQ Robotics teams, to give students the opportunity to learn through S.T.E.M. (Science Technology Engineering and Math). Our school, Pat A. Diskin Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada is a Title I  at risk school with a majority of students qualifying for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. 

In our very first year having a VEX Robotics Team at Pat A. Diskin Elementary School our students amazed us with their dedication, hard work, and persistence. As the coaches, we figured this was going to be a "learning" year for both us and the students. But our two teams, The Iron Five (made up of five 4th graders) and The Squishy Grapes (made up of five 5th graders) had other plans. They have put in almost 100 hours after school working together to build, design, practice, redesign, and practice more with their robots.

After three competitions their skills continued to improve which lead them to finishing the season ranked in 2nd and 7th place in the state of Nevada. This has earned them an invitation to be 2 of only 8 teams to represent the state of Nevada and Diskin Elementary School at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky at the end of April. This is a huge honor for our kids to go and compete at the largest robotics competition in the world. 

With such unexpected and short notice we are raising money to pay for registration, airfare, hotel, and food for the  competition trip for 10 students.

Registration and Airfare need to be paid as soon as possible. Everything else needs to be paid when we get to Kentucky in April.

This is a once in a lifetime experience and our teams would be super appreciative of any and all donations we receive. It is beyond our wildest dreams what our teams have been able to accomplish in just their first year!
