Founded and self funded by husband and wife duo, Divas of Colour International womens forum for the past 6 years has been and incubating platform for women of colour. Providing opportunities for them to grow their small businesses, equiping women with practical empowerment to grow in their careers, providing opportunities for talented women in the creative career - models, designers, make up artists etc.
During its flagship event, Divas of Colour International womens festival, held every March, the organisations uses its platform to raise awareness on topics that are of concern for women of colour - mental health, sexual abuse, protect the girl child, domestic violence, depression and more. As well as holds fashion shows, talks, and awards recognising women for their contributions.
Over the years, it has been a stretch for myself and my husband to continue carrying the huge vision with the few organisations and induviduals who have been gracious to sponsor the programmes that we champions.
Representation of the black woman in the mainstream world is a great passion for me as a mother to 3 beautiful black girls, i want my daughters to grow in a place where they don't have to beg to be accepted but to have a formidable platform that represents her and is also open to include others too.
Divas of Colour has opened doors for several women who has started out with their firsts and have grown to become thriving and achieving brands. Without goood funding this safe space for black women is again threatened.
We have great initiatives lined up to continue to provide practical empowerment for women. Unfortunately due to overwhelming bills we have to set off with these projects we've been unable to reach our goal of providing both financial support and training, internship, mentoring and coaching for young black women, start ups and women with different challenges. Therefore, I'm reaching out to you to please put your hands together to keep this women of colour space growing and doing the great job we're known for.
We want to continue providing free showcasing opportunity for upcoming and start up fashion designers to help black women gain space in the fashion industry.
We want to be able to support small business start ups in beauty and haircare to grow our presence in the beauty industry.
We want to discover more black models so that we can have more Naomi Campbells and Jordan Dunns.
We want to be able to provide the masterclasses , training, world class conferences and workshops that will empower more women to achieve their goals. And we need you now more than ever.
