Diverse Voices: Empowering Children Through Maya's Story
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Mara Tomé. I've recently embarked on writing a children's book aimed at raising awareness about diversity and inclusion. The story revolves around a character named little Maya, who, like myself, is a mixed-race girl struggling with issues of identity and belonging. Maya's journey reflects my own experiences, grappling with the complexities of being mixed-race and feeling different from those around me.
I've poured my heart into this project because it speaks to a deeply personal struggle I've faced throughout my life. Despite being mixed-race, I have darker skin and more African features, which sets me apart from my family members who are predominantly lighter-skinned or white. This sense of otherness and the quest for understanding one's identity is a theme that resonates with many individuals, especially children growing up in diverse communities.
I've been fortunate to receive positive feedback from several publishers who appreciate the story of Maya and the metaphors used to convey the importance of diversity. However, the reality is that publishing a book comes with financial costs, and I've been asked to contribute £3000 towards the publishing expenses.
Unfortunately, I don't have the means to cover this expense on my own, which is why I'm reaching out for support. I believe in the power of storytelling to educate and inspire, and I'm committed to making this book a reality. Once published, I intend to donate a portion of the proceeds from book sales to children's charities, furthering the impact of this project beyond its pages.
I'm hopeful that with your help, we can make this dream a reality and bring Maya's story to life. Thank you for considering supporting me on this journey towards promoting diversity, inclusion, and empathy through children's literature.
