Hello. I am a single mom with two kids. One of my children has special needs.
I lost my job and had to face divorce without an attorney because I couldn’t afford legal fees.
For the entire duration of the marriage I was the bread winner and because of this, and the fact that my ex had a very aggressive attorney, the judge granted most to my ex. I lost my house, my pension, everything. The fact that I was unemployed was not considered in this decision and I was basically out in the street. Even though my ex was granted the majority of everything I had, the current house market allowed for me to be left with a little bit of money after my house sold. This was my saving grace as I was able to use this money to rent a place for me and my kids.
This however left me with nothing. I have sold the little jewelry I had, have tried doing grocery shopping delivery, and food deliveries but the jobs aren’t enough to cover for bills.
I hate doing this, I have always hated handouts. I have always been in the position to give and have done so as much as I could. And now here I am in disbelief. The holiday season is here, I can’t pay utilities or buy food. I really don’t know what to do.
The funds I need are to cover for:
Food
Gas
Utilities
Medical expenses
My daughter’s therapy
As I trust my situation has to change, I intend to be again help for someone else in the future. Being in this position, on the other side of the coin now, has helped me see the desperation people find themselves in and how easy and quick life can change.
Meanwhile as bad as things are right now, they aren’t nearly as bad as they used to be. Yes we lost our home, we have no furniture, no place to go this summer and barely making it from one day to the next but if this was the price for peace then so be it.
I am grateful to you and being in this situation now, I am grateful for all the times I have been in the position to help others. Being where I am now is humbling but also terrifying
