Dixie Fire Survivors

Donation protected

We are updating this GoFundMe to include retired employees and current employees who have also suffered losses due to the Dixie Fire.

It saddens my heart to put these words into a GoFundMe. I write this post with first hand knowledge of losing everything I own to a forest fire. I work for Dig It Construction in the small community of Chester, CA. Every viable worker we have has been fighting the Dixie Fire since day one, July 13, 2021. All of our employees have put the surrounding communities first while working on the fire. We currently have three employees who have lost all that they own and love to the fires while they were away protecting the homes in other towns.

Sherry Bartlett lived in Canyon Dam with her 3 dogs, 2 goats and multiple chickens. Sherry supplied her small community with fresh eggs as there was no grocery store. She was away from home fighting the fire as it tore through her community and burnt everything she loves and holds dear to her heart, to the ground.

Timothy England lived on the outskirts of Chester. He was forced to run with his beloved dog for safety as the fire grew closer to the outskirts of Chester until it engulfed his home and all of his belongings. Tim and his dog Timber have been a part of the Chester community for 15 years.

Last but not least is Darby Williams. Darby is a foreman for Dig It Construction. He was out operating heavy equipment creating fire breaks to save other towns from the Dixie fire. Darby lives in Greenville, CA, a small gorgeous mountain community that was completely leveled due to the Dixie fire.

I know how hard it is to keep standing after losing every memory and heirloom that you have ever kept or cherished in your lifetime. To be able to breath in and out without a hitch, tear, or tremble in your body is a monumental task. Losing all that you hold dear to your heart is one of the quickest paths to depression and anger. All three of these employees and friends were on fire shifts when they learned of these evacuation orders. Not a single one of them was able to get home to grab their closest cherished mementos. All three of them also kept their heads held high and continued to assist on the fire.

Dig It Construction is starting this Gofundme to help our friends get back on their feet during this difficult time, and assist in rebuilding their future. We ask that you open your hearts to these individuals and help spread the word that they are in desperate need of our help.

Thank you.
