DJ's Fighting Spirit
Donation protected
This is DJ, he's 5 years old and full of love and spirit. He has already had a rough go and now he is fighting cancer.
Our close friends of 10 years, Charles and Cindy, started fostering him when he was just 3 days old. DJ was born a meth baby and went through 3 months of withdrawals. Lucky for DJ, Charles has 22 years in the Military, so sleepless nights aren't new to him or Cindy. Five months later Charles and Cindy were able to get full custody of him and truly call him their own. (Yay!) They have had 5 fantastic years since then.
On Dec. 7th DJ fell at school right before going home and hurt his arm. After getting home he was taken to the hospital and x-rays showed a break in the humorous bone and a large mass at the break site. The mass was identified as Osteosarcoma, a cancer that starts in the bones.
DJ will start chemotherapy which will continue for the next 10 weeks. once the mass has shrunk they will remove it along with a portion of his bone in that arm and implant a prosthetic metal rod that can be adjusted as he grows. After all that he'll have 7 more weeks of chemo to help prevent it from coming back. He has a long road ahead, but he has an amazing family (and friends) who will be with him for anything he's going to need.
The cost of the hospital and chemotherapy is going to be substantial, on top of that he will have to use a special mouthwash, be bathed with special wipes, and take medication. These aren't the only costs that will be incurred, just a few that we know of right now. The goal is based on what will have to be paid after insurance.
Anything donated would be a blessing to them to help in the cost of everything. No amount is too little, even sharing this with friends and family can make a difference. Thank you all very much.
