Please Help the Orozco Family

Hello. My name is Maddie Orozco and I’m currently an early education teacher for the Greater Austin YMCA. I’m creating this GoFundMe to ask for help for my parents.
Both my parents have been struggling with chronic health issues, which has resulted in severe financial difficulties. My mother has been unable to work for almost 6 years and has not been able to receive disability benefits. My father has been the sole provider during this time. My parents are proud people and have tried their best to “survive” without asking for help. They had already exhausted all their financial resources when they were hit with yet another crisis.
During the Thanksgiving holiday, my father had to be taken to the hospital with severe pain and vomiting. The doctors discovered he was in kidney failure and had also developed sepsis from the toxins building up in his body. My father admitted to not taking his medications regularly and hiding his worsening symptoms for nearly a month because “we didn’t have the money”. He remained in the hospital for the next 8 days while they started emergency dialysis, treated the sepsis, and stabilized his high blood pressure.
My father is now trying to keep working while he goes to dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours. The dialysis is taking a toll on him, as is adjusting to a renal diet and new medications. All the stress from my father’s illness and the lack of money has worsened my mother’s condition. She also admitted to not being able to take all her medications and following her treatment protocol because “we don’t have the
money”.
The financial stress of their situation is keeping either one of them from getting better. My parents are only in their early 50’s! At this time, they are unable to pay their basic living expenses. They have not been able to pay their December rent which continues to accrue late charges and it doesn’t look like they’ll be able to pay January’s rent either. Their leasing agency is aware of their situation but has not offered much assistance. My mother has reached out to the list of charities she was given and none of them have been able to help. They are either out of money or the wait list is very long and cannot help with my parents’ immediate needs.
At 23 years old, fully supporting myself financially, I can only help so much. It breaks my heart that it’s not enough to help them get out of this nightmare. At this point, it all seems hopeless and the only thing I can think to do is to look to the kindness of family, friends, and other generous people to help us. I was able to convince my parents to put aside all feelings of embarrassment and let me ask for help on their behalf.
Our goal is to reach $15,000 to help with rent, utilities, medications, and scheduled medical treatments. Any contribution would help and is greatly appreciated. Prayers are always welcomed!
