Help Our Family Move To Safety
Donation protected
TLDR: We need to raise enough to buy an RV or rent a home (plus moving expenses) for our family of 5 humans in a safer state (Washington or Oregon) with trans and LGBTQIA+ protections. Our middle kiddo, S, is 7 years old.
Being AMAB, S started referring to herself as a girl around a year and a half ago in passing. Since then the insistence has become more frequent. Supporting her being herself is less of a tomorrow concern and more of a very soon one.
Our daily lives allows S to present and be referred to as she likes, however being a Type 1 diabetic means routine doctors visits in addition to the normal kid ones. She wonders why the doctors misgender her and why she doesn’t get free range of outfits for appointments.
When I began my transition 11 years ago I knew that our world wasn’t nearly as accepting of our community as we would hope, but for me, the freedom that came with my authenticity was more than worth the struggles I could foresee as an adult. Those years ago I had no idea what our world and my life would look like in 2023. I can only imagine how the future seems to trans youth across our country right now. My heart breaks for them and all of our community. Our hope is to be in a safer place before those questions turn into insecurities or shame.
All of that bravado and will to stay has gradually slipped further and further away, especially since SB 14. With SB 14 and other anti-trans legislation in the works across the country looming over our heads, we have never felt as anxious about where we are and what that means for our future and our children's future. Part of Texas being home for us was the fact that we have family here, which unfortunately is another looming issue. There is a threat that they will call child services and attempt to intervene if S is allowed to be herself. (Which is why initials and minimal information have been shared on this page) Without the resources to leave but the overwhelming feeling that we need to as soon as possible we are left without many options. So, here’s the long shot. Our goal is to raise enough to buy an RV so that we are able to relocate to somewhere safer quickly or to ensure enough to rent a home in a safe state and help with moving expenses. A family of 5 with 3 dogs and a cat is by no means an easy feat to move but I’m hopeful we can finally be somewhere we won't have to flee again. At the moment, we are focused on trying to get established in either Washington or Oregon since they seem like the best bets for long-term safety. If you can contribute it is so much appreciated and monumental for our family. If you can’t, we appreciate you taking the time to read or share this page so that we may be able to reach others who have resources that could help us. Thank you!
