Leo's Honduras Mission Trip

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,

The Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) has an exciting opportunity for students to participate in an upcoming outreach trip to Santa Rosa del Copán, Honduras. Our team of students, doctors and staff will be departing on April 9, 2016, and returning on April 16. I am sending you this letter to request your financial assistance with this endeavor to deliver basic patient care, medical assistance, health education, clothing and food to the most vulnerable.

With the help of local charities, VCOM has been able to secure many medications; however, we are still in great need of financial donations to support the mission activities and help provide basic supplies to those communities in which we work. Many of the patients we will see are uninsured and are without ready access to health care. Often, people living in these communities have to walk for several kilometers to catch a bus to the capital just for basic care. Most homes consist of one to two rooms, house an average of six people, and lack appropriate water and sanitation services.

Unlike many charities and mission programs, VCOM is fortunate to work with Mission UpReach, a local charitable organization, to help provide ongoing care after our departure to meet patient needs.

The trip will cost each student approximately $1,000 to cover flight, housing and food. Additional fees will also be incurred upon arranging travel to the North Carolina airport.  You can make a donation directly to me to support my travel; however, these donations are not tax deductible under IRS guidelines.

All donations made to the general trip fund will be tax deductible and acknowledged through a tax receipt, accompanied by a photo gallery and brief report.
If you are interested in donating to the general trip fund, please submit a check made payable to “Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine” to the VCOM International Office at 2265 Kraft Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Please write April Santa Rosa Outreach Trip in the memo section of your check.

Your donation will help to make a difference in the lives of those we serve in Honduras and will provide a life-changing experience for many medical students. Thank you for your time and consideration of this significant opportunity.

Sincerely,
