Air Ambulance for Victoria!
Donation protected
Have updated this page to reflect that we are trying to arrange an air ambulance to fly Victoria from Berlin to Boise or Portland, for long term rehabilitation. Cost is very high. US Embassy provided a list of air ambulance companies. Contacted them, lowest priced one is $128,500. Cost of chartered ICU with experienced nurse, EMT with respiratory expertise, two pilots, jet fuel (with two stops for refueling). Victoria's current condition: stable but still serious, still paralyzed and still on breathing respirator assistance. Has Porphyria, a rare blood disease that causes the immune system to attack the nervous system, causing extreme pain, gastric issues and paralysis. Doctors are using another heme blood treatment today. (used to attack bad porphyrins in blood stream). She has been in the ICU in Berlin for almost six weeks now. First three weeks she was treated for Guillian-Barre Syndrome, which exhibits the same symtoms as Porphyria. Additional tests concluded she has this rare blood disease that causes such drastic results in the human body.
Doctors hope to conduct a pneumothorax test of her lungs, to see if her collapsed lung has healed/corrected, which would allow her to fly home for rehabilitation via air ambulance. German doctors agree that she would benefit from having family and friends close by to visit and provide moral support and encouragement for her. If she does not pass the test, air travel will be delayed resulting in rehab in Germany until she is able to fly.
Any donation, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. The goal of this GoFundMe is to help finance an air ambulance to return Victoria to Boise. Secondly, to assist in paying for the medical expenses not covered by insurance.
