Luna’s Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Natalie Avina. I’ve had the privilege of managing Luna’s soccer team for 5+ years. Luna is fierce, she’s strong, she’s determined, she’s talented, she’s motivated, she’s a team player, and she’s sweet as can be. Now, her soccer family is rallying around her and her entire family to offer support in their time of need. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, generosity and prayers as they navigate the road ahead.
In our Dixon Leon SC family, no one fights alone. We are creating this GoFundMe for one of our players that was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Diffuse Midline Glioma (spinal cord) cancer. Luna Bermudez, ten-years-old, begun her fight with cancer after feeling slight pain in her ankle and back. Doctors ordered an MRI. After receiving results, Luna was admitted immediately to begin treatment. She started her journey August 2023 at Oakland Children’s Hospital then was transferred to UCSF Children’s Hospital. She has almost completed 30 days of intense radiation and physical therapy. After a month and a half in the hospital, Luna requested to go home. Both of her parents, Ivan and Melissa, have been driving her to SF five days a week to receive radiation. Once her radiation treatment is complete, she will continue to receive physical therapy; there will be a pause in cancer treatment for 4 weeks until she receives a new MRI. Due to the location of the tumor on her spine, it is creating pressure on her nerves, causing her to lose mobility in her legs and is not able to stand. The physical therapy is important to keep her muscles moving. Luna is eligible for two different treatment trials. Her parents and medical team will determine the next treatment plan after the 2nd MRI.
This GoFundMe is set up with the permission of Luna’s parents, Ivan and Melissa, as they have received substantial medical bills, and are now down one income since Melissa is staying by Luna’s side every day. Ivan has also had to cancel many of his jobs to be able to attend crucial doctor appointments and be with Luna as well. Melissa carries the families health insurance through her employer, but will soon be responsible to pay approximately $2,300 for Cobra, as she will not be returning to work for the unforeseen future.
100% of donations will be given directly to Bermudez Family.
We appreciate the love, support and prayers offered to this family. ❤️⚽️
