Medical Bills and Daily Life

Hi, my name is Keli 'key-lee' Massow, I am Hoyt's fiance.

Back in October 2022, Hoyt went in for a CT scan of his abdomen due to pain.
At that time, we learned he needed to be evaluated for cirrhosis. His primary physician sent him to a gastroenterologist, who confirmed, he does indeed have non-alcoholic cirrosis due to a genetic digestive disease called hemochromatosis. Bascially, this has been a life long disease silently taking a major toll on his body. We only know about it now because he became symptomatic late in the disease. Which is how liver damage works.

Part of cirrhosis is mind fog. A build up of ammonia keeps him confused and lost, most days. He's basically become a dementia patient (temporarily we hope). He has to be reminded to do a lot of normal daily tasks right now. He also is anemic with VERY low platelets and hemoglobin. He is malnourished and losing muscle mass because his intestines are severely swollen and not absorbing like they should due to a back up of blood flow in the intestines. Its affecting his teeth, hair, skin and the rest of his organs. He also has an enlarged spleen. He's a major fall risk, and that could potentially be fatal if he damages the spleen or liver.

As you can imagine, he's not able to work as much as he once did, but he still is working part time. There are many days where he is just too sick to go in for a scheduled shift. He takes a lot of serious medications that destroy and reak havoc on his body in many ways. He will go days where he just sleeps because he's so out of it. And as a result of him not being able to work, our bills and survival have had to rest upon my shoulders and I'm just being honest, we barely make it. This day and age, it requires two incomes or you live very poorly, and that's where we are right now. We are technically homeless, living in a small, older camper that does not have heat or AC. I have been very embarassed admitting that fact, but that's what it is.. the facts. Financially, I am not able to cover everything we currently need. I, too, am chronically ill and spend a lot on medication for myself. Any funds donated will be used to pay off his extremely high medical bills we've begun to drown in. Anything remaining will either go in savings or be used to purchase gas to get back and forth to MUSC. He is now being evaluated for a liver transplant.

If you are inclined or able to help, just know any help is so greatly appreciated. Even if all you do is share it with others. I honeslty HATE asking for help, it causes me so much anxiety but we are at the point where if we don't, we might go without eating.

Thank you in advance from the absolute bottom of our hearts.
I hope you have a blesssed day!

Love,
Hoyt and Keli
