Ross Medical Emergency
Tax deductible
At the OutPaws' Sweet Home Sanctuary, we love all species and strive to give farm animals a chance at a happily ever after. Ross is one of our precious bunnies. Before coming to the Sweet Home Sanctuary, our vet said it appears that he had a hard life. What we know is that Ross was purchased from a breeder to entertain the young children in the home. When the children grew bored with him, he and his bunny friend were moved to a hutch in the backyard. One night, a bear discovered the hutch and destroyed it -- taking Ross's bunny mate right in front of him. Somehow, Ross survived the incident and was left all alone with a family who no longer wanted to devote any time or attention to him as a companion. We found out about Ross when the family was unwilling to even attempt to find a safe pet home for him and listed him on Next Door as a "free meat rabbit."
Since coming to us, Ross has had chronic upper respiratory illnesses which we have not had much luck in treating. At his vet visit last week, Ross had dropped almost a kilogram in weight--which is huge for a small bunny who weighs less than 5 lbs. The vet suspects there is an underlying issue, either dental or nasal, and has referred us to a specialist in the Denver-area. We will be going in for a CT scan appointment today to determine what that issue may be and what treatment we can provide to give Ross healing and a chance at a true happily ever after. Ross is the sweetest bun who likes to be snuggled and gets super excited for his evening snack of veggies.
We recently completed our large bunny habitat with 640 sq foot outdoor run and bunny shed with levels, nesting boxes, hutches and lots to explore. Unfortunately, Ross hasn't had the opportunity to join the other bunnies in their new home because he has been ill. Would you help us restore Ross's health so he can enjoy a few years just being the happy bunny he deserves to be?
Today's visit to Evolution will be $185 for the consultation and then $400ish for the CT scan. We will update regarding what further treatment is recommended. Last week's vet visit with medications for nebulizer treatment was $228 and $83 for medications two weeks prior to that. Ross had not been neutered (the family did not even know his gender) and had never received vet care, vaccinations, or treatment for any medical issues before coming to us. We want this boy to finally be able to be seen and cared for in the way he deserves.
