Dmitri's World Scout Jamboree Appeal
Donation protected
My name is Dmitri Darshana and I am a year 9 student at Framingham Earl High School.
I am passionate about Scouting and am proud and excited to have been chosen to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in August.
I live near Norwich and am approaching local businesses and companies for support in achieving my £3,895 fundraising goal for the trip.
I have so far raised just over £1,000 through my own efforts, running stalls at local fetes, sponsored indoor rock climbing, sewing badges on shirts for local Cubs and with the support of charity grants.
In March I am planning to do a sponsored 26-mile walk along the route of the Mammoth Marathon from Sea Palling to Sheringham and I will also be organising a fund-raising car wash and garage sale.
However, I appreciate I still have a long way to go in my fund-raising journey which is why I am looking for support from you.
I appreciate the Scouts as a character-building, leadership-developing family that is helping me on my journey to adult life.
We are the generation that will be grappling with the world’s biggest problems and I want to immerse myself at the World Scout Jamboree in a fulfilling experience surrounded by young people like me from all parts of the world.
It will be an opportunity to discuss, explore and dream up innovative ways we, both as individuals and collectively, can help real-world issues.
I have grown up in England but my family comes from Sri Lanka and I want to enrich my life by experiencing other world cultures. The great global warming challenge is proof, if needed, that we are one world, irrevocably intertwined, and we must work together.
I have been focused and determined to acquire the necessary skills for this over the last 14 months by working with my unit members through attending several training camps, team-building events and fund-raising activities. I am sure it will be an experience that will stay with me and impact me for the rest of my life. I am hoping to bring back new skills and ideas to make a positive impact on my local scouting and the community.
The cost of participation for scouts in countries like the UK is higher than those in developing countries. This is so we can help subsidise scouts from poorer parts of the world, so any contribution to my fundraising will not only support me but also scouts in other, poorer areas too.
You can also make a direct contribution to Norfolk Scout WSJ account quoting the reference “D Darshana U26”. Please do contact me so I can provide their bank details.
Thank you very much for your consideration,
With kind regards,
Dmitri
