Turned 24 years old today and I couldn't be more thankful for the great family and friends that I have in my life.
This year, I'd like to use my birthday to support an important cause. When I was 12, my brother, sisters, and I lost our mother Suzanne to suicide. The strongest woman we knew had a moment of weakness that changed our lives forever.
In 2018, suicide was the 2nd leading cause of death in the state of Michigan for people between the ages of 15 and 34. Each year, it is estimated that 9% of adolescents and 7% of adults lose a family member or close friend to suicide.
There is a phenomenal health organization that is dedicated to saving lives AND helping those affected by suicide. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is committed to solving this complex issue at hand by:
-Funding scientific research
-Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention
-Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention
-Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide in the AFSP mission
Today is a lovely Friday in the season of giving and gofundme provides a platform to donate money efficiently. Whether you are able to donate $100 or 1 penny (or just simply be a positive resource in someone else's life) you are making the world a better place. Thank you for your time!
