My name is John McGarry and I am the Head Wrestling Coach for the Trinidad and Tobago National Team. I am here asking for help in support of athletes from Trinidad and Tobago to be able to compete and hopefully qualify for not only the 2016 Junior World Tournament but also the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
I actually never wrestled in high school, but when a program called Beat The Streets came to my high school in the Bronx about 8 years ago, I was asked to get involved and it changed my life. Besides the techniques and strategies I studied and continue to study, wrestling taught me about humility and how to help others deal with disappointment, which has made me a better man . Through this funding I hope to continue to help influence young men and women on their way to accomplish their dreams of competing on the highest level.
When I started this endeavor 2 years ago I knew what went into the coaching aspect, but I had no idea the actual cost of running a program. The cost of flights, hotels, training sites, training gear, etc. Starting at the end of this month, National Team wrestlers will begin
trying to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil with tournaments in Texas, Mongolia and Turkey. In June, Junior atheletes will begin with competition in Venezuela to try to qualify for the Junior World Championships in France.
The money will be used for airfare, hotels, entry fees and training purposes. I know that all the members will be forever greatful for any help that you could give in helping people reach their dreams.
