In July of 2018, our great friend Patrick Dougher, was diagnosed with advance interstitial lung disease. Patrick has suffered from chronic bronchial asthma since 1980 and has undergone countless hospitalizations and procedures for his condition and the damage to his airways cannot be repaired, He is currently on the National Lung Transplant list and is awaiting a Bi-lateral lung transplant under the direction of the University of Pennsylvania and their transplant team. Patrick is currently on 24-7 oxygen therapy until the transplant is completed.
After the surgery, Patrick will be hospitalized for at least one month and his recovery will include a three month stay in Philadelphia in a "transplant house not covered by insurance", to help with his recovery. His wife Lauren will be his caretaker and will have to live there with him. Patrick will need to be on anti-rejection drugs for the rest of his life which are not all covered by insurance.
Due to Patrick's chronic lung condition he was forced to retire from the Scranton School district after 33 years of service. Patrick resides in Dunmore with his 3 children Cameron, Patrick and Caroline and his wife Lauren.
Patrick has always had a deep commitment to his faith and trust in God and family and is very
Optimistic that the transplant surgery will go well and lead to many years of good health with his family.
