Overseas Military kids go to DC!

Military Kids Overseas Traveling  to Washington DC.

Sometimes we forget that when our military serves, our families serve too. More than 50,000 U.S. Military and Department of Defense kids attend a school on a military base overseas every day and this is our chance to support a few of them.

This January, 20 of our military and DoD children will be traveling from a U.S. military base in Italy to Washington D.C. to represent the thousands of family members who serve overseas. This group of 8th graders will be taking the trip of a lifetime to see the U.S. Government in action. Instead of just reading about history, they will experience it first-hand, all while bringing awareness to all families serving away from home.

During the trip, the students will be:

-Laying a Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns

-Touring the Pentagon

-Visiting the U.S. Capitol

-Attending a presentation at the U.S. Supreme Court

-Visiting the National Archives

-Exploring the Smithsonian Museums

-Experiencing the various memorials (MLK, Lincoln, Vietnam War, etc)

-Attending the 58th Presidential Inauguration and marching in the Inauguration Parade as representatives of DoDEA schools worldwide.

Although they attend a DoD school, the school, understandably, cannot fund their trip. Every cent of travel, food and lodging are being paid out of pocket by our families. No federal funds are being used to fund their trip or operate this GoFundMe account.

Our students have been working hard to pay for the costs associated with this trip. They have hosted bake sales, bagged groceries, and mowed lawns. And now we would like to ask friends, family, and fellow Americans for that extra "last bit."

Your donation will help us pay for:

-ground transportation and airport transfers

-reservations for the National Archives

-hotel costs

All funds will be used to equally benefit the 20 students. No funds will be used to support the adult chaperones.

This GoFundMe has been created by and for the families of the students traveling. This is not a request for funds by the school system which they attend or the military base where they reside. No federal property was used in creating this account and no funds will be used to directly benefit the federal employee (teacher) who is taking the students on this journey.

We are so thankful for the friends, family and kind neighbors who are supporting us in this endeavor and we greatly appreciate the financial help!
