Diabetic Alert Dog for Sadie Bug
Donation protected
When Sadie joined our family January 2012, we were fully expecting a healthy 7 pound baby girl as there was nothing to indicate otherwise. Within minutes of Sadie coming into the world, we knew something was very wrong. It's hard to describe the devastation and fear we experienced as our baby was whisked away to another hospital to undergo a life saving surgery to connect her esophagus. Within a week, we learned that she had Down Syndrome. After two months in the NICU, we got to bring our baby home. A couple months later, we went back for an unexpected heart surgery. Just this past March, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes
when we almost lost her (Sadie's dx story). This month she will have yet another unrelated medical procedure on her esophagus which will help her eat solid food and most likely increase her need for insulin. Yet, through it all, Sadie is the light of our lives and a true super star. She is an angel on earth and has an affect on people that is undeniable.
We are doing everything we can to manage Sadie's diabetes and it is proving to be a challenging diagnosis. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and"”at present"”nothing you can do to get rid of it. It is in our face 24/7. Sadie's age, size and other special needs have made it very difficult thus far to say the least. Even her doctor is challenged and has to treat Sadie differently. Every day brings new surprises...highs and lows that don't make sense... and every day we have to face that constant fear for her safety that never seems to go away. Moving forward into the future, we don't know how verbal or self aware Sadie is going to be and therefore, we have decided to get her a diabetic alert dog to help us keep her safe.
We have been working closely with a local breeder
to get Sadie one of these amazing dogs. The pups that KC whelps and raises are scent imprinted, extensively socialized to a wide variety of situations, and exposed to massive amounts of real time diabetic scent. These dogs are not a cure, but as an aid to the management of Diabetes. We don't know when we will get the dog and are patiently (and sometimes not so patiently) waiting while KC matches up with the perfect companion for our perfect angel. In the meantime, many of our friends and family have been asking if they could help, so we've set up this fund and welcome any and all donations to the cause. All funds raised will go towards Sadie's dog and other related expenses. Thanks for your support! Hugs and sloppy kisses from Sadie!
