Doing an IronMan to fundraise for The Harris Trust

The Harris Trust are doing amazing things and I’m completely in awe of the charity that Jane and the team have set up in Harris’s memory.

Our families have been friends since before I was born and we shared the early years of our lives together in our wee village community outside Edinburgh, we are devastated by the loss of Harris.

I feel if things had been different Harris and I could have been doing this challenge together which often goes through my mind while training. Harris and I shared a love for music and sports and this is why I want to fundraise for The Harris Trust, to help young people find this love as well.

The Harris Trust have an amazing music project called S.P.a.R.Ks which has already impacted so many young people and they have big plans going forward which is what I’ll be fundraising the help them with.

Here’s a bit of information about there S.P.a.R.Ks program:

Project Overview
The S.P.a.R.Ks project (Songwriting Performance and Recording Kickstarter) funded by Harris’
Trust is an independently ran music based learning project that focuses on the development of
High School Students based in the Scottish Borders Area (Selkirk, Earlston, Galashiels, Jedburgh,
etc) Who are interested in learning and developing music industry relevant skills and qualities
through workshop based learning. These students are primarily sourced by Teachers and Head
Teachers of their respective schools who recognise that the students may be neurodiverse and
have an interest in music due to their neurodiversity (Aspergers, ASD, ADHD, etc) This projects
main Success Outcome is to provide students a place to achieve any of (but not limited to) the
following:

Confidence Building
Better Self-Esteem
A way to get their voices heard
Team Working
Collaboration Skills
Creative Thinking

For students who may have fallen through the gaps of mental health diagnosis this project should
provide a therapeutic environment for them to discuss their situation with like-minded individuals
and also as a place for them to find their interest in something they enjoy alongside the school
curriculum, the project serves as an alternative to typical education formats and strives to be
inclusive to students taking part, with respect to their situation in and out of school.
