Doing school the BROOKS way: Homeschool Startup

Hey everyone! I am LaToya Brooks, educator and mother of 3 amazing girls (Aria 15, Skylar 9, and Kai 6). We have made the difficult, but necessary choice to homeschool the girls. While there are a multitude of factors that went into this decision, here are a couple of key points that guided this course of action:

1. Aria is actively pursuing a career in the entertainment industry and requires flexibility in her schedule. As a result, when I am called to serve as "momager" out of state, I have to leave the "littles" at home, which has created a bit of separation anxiety. Homeschooling will allow us the freedom to recover from these challenges and cater to all of the girls equally.

2. Homeschooling will also allow us the opportunity to teach the whole child, focusing on a well-rounded curriculum that is inclusive of Social Emotional Learning Strategies, an active Arts and Steam curriculum, and a relevant History curriculum that encourages Self Worth.

Homeschooling is an amazing journey that we are so excited to embark upon, however, there are no grants or funding available. With the funds raised, we will be able to provide access to an online curriculum (Time4Learning) and outsourcing for additional units outside of the core subjects. Additionally, we will purchase software, memberships/subscriptions, and project supplies to operate our homeschool effectively, coupled with interactive field trips that will enhance the learning experience.
