Domingae’s Transition and Survival Fund
Domingae (Domi) is a Chilean musician and artist currently living in Mexico City. She has touched countless people around the world with her stunning art and infectious, loving energy. Now, she needs our help to truly thrive and continue her transition safely in New York City.
Given the immense difficulty of accessing trans healthcare in Chile, Domi moved to Mexico City last year to continue her transition. While the process has been essential to her wellbeing, life and medical care in Mexico City has presented its own hardships. Covering the cost of care on an independent artist’s income has taken its toll, especially with touring coming to an abrupt halt in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Even more pressing is the danger of living as an openly trans woman in Mexico City. Mexico is the second most dangerous country in the world to be transgender, according to human rights groups. Most attacks go unpunished, including murder. Domi is not only concerned about the quality of care she is receiving in Mexico, but is afraid for her life.
This is where we all come in–Domi is ready to move to NYC to continue her transition and live life to the fullest as the astounding artist she is, but she needs our help. With your donations, we will not only fund Domi’s access to transition-related care as an independent artist without employer-subsidized healthcare, but help her establish a life in NYC with safe housing so she can securely start this new chapter without fear or uncertainty.
Domi has given us so much, and now it’s our turn to give back. Every bit helps, and Domi and her community thank you from the bottom of our hearts for anything you can contribute.
From Domi: "i wanted to share my experience and struggle with all the beauties out there who are struggling.
It is very hard to reach out for help, especially when you are in a society that is violent to us on a daily basis in every way they can, and where there are always more people that are going through more heavy struggles as well, but I encountered a point in my life where reaching out for help became the only option to keep going, and it is the scariest thing ever... but with the help of my friends and hopefully all of you, I hope for this vulnerability to become a strength, for me and for all of us that believe we can be what we’re meant."
