Don Caballero is a legendary band whose musical contributions have influenced countless musicians and listeners worldwide. At the heart of it all is drummer Damon Che, whose iconic, idiosyncratic skills behind the kit have helped transform the genre of experimental music.
Damon has kept watch over the band’s discography, which was recorded onto 2"/24 track magnetic tape starting in the early 90's up until 2006, totalling about 22 reels worth of tape. Due to natural degradation over time, the quality of these tapes eventually become very difficult to transfer over to the digital medium. Furthermore, the equipment and skillsets required for working with tape has become increasingly scarce. We therefore found it necessary to convert these tapes into a digital format before they became unplayable or before the technology and skills to preserve the recordings became obsolete.
Besides the costs of digitization, funds will also go towards facilitating new Don Caballero media, including merch, videos, and online lessons. New music is an unknown at this point, but it certainly doesn't hurt the chances either.
