The Don Owens Legacy Scholarship For Music Education has been established with the intent of providing an annual $1,000 scholarship for a Dickinson High School band student pursuing a degree in music education. Mr. Owens’ band directing career spanned almost five decades and his determination and work ethic have influenced generations of band students and music educators. Scholarship selection will be based on academic achievement, musical performance, and financial need.
Don Owens passed away on the evening of August 3, 2020 after a well fought battle with COVID-19. The outpouring of love towards Mr. and Mrs. Owens during his illness was a true depiction of the impact he and Mrs. Owens had on his students and co-workers over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family knows that Mr. Owens would prefer passing on his love of music and teaching through this scholarship. Thank you so much for your support.
